Broste was founded in Copenhagen in 1955 by entrepreneur Ulf Brøste, who had a knack for discovering small pieces of furniture, interior decorative objects, trinkets, and gift items during his travels around the world. Inspired by the success of the Danish modern movement, he decided to help emerging talents produce and distribute their own carefully curated collections.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the scope expanded with flagship stores along Copenhagen’s canals, as well as a selective import of kelim rugs and vintage décor. In the 1980s and 1990s, the focus shifted to wholesale, and in-house production of candles and gift items was established.

The brand name, Broste Copenhagen, was created in the early 2000s and now represents the values and DNA of the Danish design company. Since then, our primary aim has been to provide outstanding, versatile, and accessible design solutions—pleasing to the eye and perfectly suited to effortless Scandinavian living.

In 2010, Broste was acquired by Norwegian Gunnar Hillestad and Dane Kim Larsen. Since then, Kim Larsen has been the company’s dynamic CEO and visionary, ensuring that the heritage is honoured and the design ambitions are expanded.

Today, Broste interiors are sold worldwide, and 95% of all our products are designed in-house by our carefully selected team of designers. Broste has become synonymous with everyday essentials that make life easier, meticulously crafted tableware, artisanal vases, mouth-blown glass, bespoke candles, and colourful textiles.
