Design by Sebastian Herkner
The Gaira chaise longue embodies the elegance of contemporary design combined with traditional craftsmanship. It rests on a three-legged base of sustainably sourced wood, perfectly suited to outdoor use.
The seat, hand-woven using the traditional momposino technique, has been revisited to create a 4x4 pattern in two-tone fibers, giving it a unique graphic signature. This intricate weaving, emblematic of Colombian Caribbean culture, gives each piece a profoundly artisanal and cultural dimension.
Each chair is made in Santa Marta, on Colombia's Caribbean coast, by local craftsmen. The weaving is done with recycled PVC ropes, carefully wrapped around a powder-coated tubular steel frame. The result: a resistant, ethical and visually striking chair.
Designer Sebastian Herkner, a long-standing partner of the ames brand, drew inspiration from his many trips to Colombia, his encounters with local craftsmen and their rich heritage. Winner of numerous international awards, he is recognized for his sensitive and innovative approach to design, blending materials, colors and textures with great precision.
